My Story

Yes, I loved the look and flavor of the asparagus on my plate that day, and the harmony with the delicious grilled meat! At the time, I was working as the marketing manager of a corporate company that brought Anatolia's traditional and organic products to consumers at home and abroad. We were at a celebration dinner after a fair we attended in the U.S. It was there, on that plate, that I met asparagus for the first time... Actually, it was not love at first sight! In the Aegean, we know wild asparagus. For a short time in spring, it appears on the market stalls under different names such as tilkishen, foxtail and ivy. For the people of Aegean, who know and consume a lot of herbs and greens, tilkishen is beneficial and moreover delicious. Especially when you crack two eggs on it...

But the asparagus on that plate was different!

Crunchy, juicy, i'd say... Perfect taste by alone!

When I was back to Turkey, I started searching cultured varieties of wild asparagus. Although the homeland of wild varieties is Anatolian geography; production was called very hard and nobody knew much about asparagus. Where to grow, how to cook ... . No literature, no information.

I have studied Business Administration at University followed by MBA degree, so I knew little about agriculture those days... On the one hand I've tried to get information from farmers abroad in the Netherlands and Germany, I've read a lot, made researches and tracked asparagus on the internet, I've worked in the fields of Eskişehir Saricakaya of Nomad Tarım -the biggest asparagus farmer in Turkey- and I spent quite good time there; on the other hand, I was looking for proper fields for my own agriculture, collecting and analyzing soil samples from various fields... From Bergama to Torbalı; I've travelled all over the Aegean Region from Aydın to Dalaman. Fertile lands were everywhere, but when it came to my demad for perennial renting, there were no fields for me...

More than 8 years have passed since then... I went on a journey that day, a journey that I enjoyed every moment of...

First of all, we experienced all stages of asparagus on the field with Hasan Abi, the man who knows farming best and who is deeply in love with soil, right next to Dalaman River, in Güzelyurt Village in Muğla/ Ortaca. That's when I met the land! For the first time, my palms exploded; when I saw the first shoots cracking the earth, my witness to the miracle of life took my mind off it! We worked in our test field for a year, we observed every moment of asparagus. During our first harvest, there was such a joy in our family that supported us from the beginning that it eclipsed the most festive harvest festivals.

I've been working with women in my village, who are also my neighbors in my village -Yeşilçam- since 2015; and during this period, we have built a packaging plant. 

In 2018, we received our Good Agricultural Practices Certificate from the Ministry of Agriculture, which confirms that we produce sustainably in accordance with food safety and by protecting the environment, animal and human health. We completely rejected the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers and started our transition to Organic Agriculture in 2019. We completed the 3-year transition process and adopted a sustainable organic agriculture model that is friendly to the environment and nature as certified.

In 2020, with our new venture Asparagus Tarım A.Ş., we realized the largest asparagus planting in our country at one time on 210 decares of land. We completed the Globalgap and Grasp Certification processes. Our harvest, which started gradually in 2022, will reach 200 tons of product in 2025, when the entire field will reach full yield. With the contracted production model, nearly 50 asparagus producers, including us, have started exporting local asparagus by bringing our products together under the roof of Nomad Tarım A.Ş. 

Our journey, which started with 2.5 decares, continues on 250 decares....
